Middle School

A letter from Ms. Carrie…

This was from our production of Charles Dickens “The Christmas Carol”

Our aim is to create a happy, safe, fun and nurturing environment, where your child will develop academic, creative, spiritual and emotional skills. Our desire is that each day your child will feel like they are coming to their second home with a beautiful environment to work in. We are fully aware of the sensitive years that lie ahead, and we intend on supporting and guiding them on this special journey. We believe we can create a truly magical experience for them.

The space is a large wooden rancho with its own stage. The children will spend their first few weeks painting their stage. The space also has an apartment which has been transformed into a cozy, bohemian den/silent reading nook, computer room and library. It will be full of couches, comfy chairs, computers and lots of books!

We are excited to be offering the Oak Meadow math curriculum which is a Waldorf-inspired, 36-week, rich education program and Global Village language arts, science, and social studies. We believe the combination of these 2 curriculums are the best available, as they are artistic, fun and leave lots of room for inquisitive and curious thinkers. We intend to fully bring the curriculum to life by integrating theater, art and music throughout. The magic of Nosara Playhouse is that we embody education so it doesn't feel like work. To put it frankly, it is not going to be dull!

This year we embarked on so many fun and educational field trips. We learned about recycling, collected and tested water samples from Guiones, and went on an epic catamaran trip!!

If you were a fly on the wall in our Middle School, here are some of the special things you would see....

  • A morning circle of fifteen to twenty students, sitting on the stage having meaningful conversations, singing songs and discussing world interests.

  • A group of students making daily affirmations and practicing social emotional tools such as breathwork, meditation and yoga.

  • Students working through their Oak Meadow books, independently, or in discussion groups, being supported and guided by our specially chosen facilitators.

  • You would see Ms. Emily acting as Mama Bear for all the students, whether it be for those who need a shoulder to cry on that day, or maybe just for those that need a big hug in the morning!

  • You would see children lying in hammocks, sitting at tables or hanging in our cozy den, working on math, language, social studies and science independently.

  • You would see children writing plays, songs and choreographing dances together, making movies and practicing theater. You would also see students making and painting props or possibly just tinkering around with a few bits and bobs.

  • At lunch-time you would see students eating home- made local cuisine, created by our friendly staff.

  • During free time you would see students playing on aerial silks, reading in our silent room, or playing soccer, basketball or table- tennis.

  • Every day you would see a bunch of dogs sleeping on the floor, cats sleeping on the tables, pigs snoring in their pig-pen and chickens hanging out in the farm, sometimes a couple of cows, horses and monkeys too!

  • You would hear music playing, the smell of incense burning and homey cooking smells wafting from the kitchen.

You will see the children participating in many added activities such as yoga, meditation, sound healing, cooking classes, circus tricks, and field trips.

A typical week would look like this...

We will also be hosting a variety of rituals and ceremonies for both boys and girls which will help them ease through these rites of passage years. Such ceremonies will include bonfires, stories of sisterhood and brotherhood, walks in nature, camping trips and trips to hot springs.

We welcome all families who are kind, supportive, loving, open-minded, and have an appreciation for the arts. Our school aims to build a strong community through a variety of events such as Halloween Parties, Flower Power Festivals, mid-trimester performances focusing on some of the world's richest cultures and an end of trimester performance for family and friends to attend. That is 6 performances a year!

We would be honored to have you be a part of Nosara Playhouse and look forward to getting to know your child. We truly believe this will be a very magical and transformative experience, which your child will benefit from for years to come.
